  • Cathy O'Rear

I am a lifelong resident of the greater Seattle area. My childhood was spent in South Seattle and in 1970 I graduated from Rainier Beach Junior Senior High School and attended the University of Washington. Currently, I enjoy volunteering and spending time with our young grandchildren.

During my childhood, my parents saved for a Magnavox stereo and played a wide variety of music. I loved to dance and move to the music and later my parents introduced me to a nonprofit youth organization that included movement and music. Scott Oki’s father, Bob Oki was the founder of the Imperials Drum and Bugle Corps and during those years we competed throughout Washington and
    later across the country.

I later became one of the instructors to assist in choreography and execution. At that time, I experienced and learned the value of giving back to children of all ages who were interested in movement to music.

When Scott asked if I would be a part of the vision to create the Breaking Boundaries Foundation, I was all in. This nonprofit organization would help youths in our hometown with the opportunities to develop lifelong friendships with the same passion, be their best as an individual and as a team through hard work and compassion and one day, they will have the strong desire to give back to the music and dance community of Breaking.
